Updates to Irene Ryans for Festival 57!
At the National KCACTF meeting, the decision was made to update the Irene Ryan process. For Festival 57 we will return to an in-person preliminary round and all three rounds will be the same – one monologue and one scene. Please take a moment to read through the changes below, along with a letter from the national committee explaining why this decision was made. ITJA Essay – Why Should We Care About Women In Theatre
As these big names were announced to me, and staff awards were handed out, I couldn’t help but wonder if these women were like me and sat in these same rooms before. If they had ever felt small, if they had ever felt powerless. Like their words held less weight than their male counterparts. Even if they did, here they stood in front of me now, despite the struggle.
