One Act Play Competition

Submission Guidelines (for students in KCACTF Region IV Only)

  • Complete and submit One-Act Cover Sheet (Submissions are currently closed)
  • After submitting the cover sheet, you will be asked to upload a copy of your script in PDF format with TITLE PAGE ONLY. NO AUTHOR OR SCHOOL NAME
  • Deadline:  November 1st
  • Each playwright may submit up to two (2) one-act plays

Other guidelines:

  • There is no submission fee for the one-act play festival
  • The running time of a one-act play is under 60 minutes
  • When typed in a standard format, a one-act play is approximately 10-45 pages in length
  • There is no intermission in a one-act play
  • Up to six plays will be selected as Region IV finalists and will be given readings at the Region IV Festival
  • Selected regional finalists may be invited to submit to the KCACTF national John Cauble Short Play Award
  • The Region IV finalists and their home schools are asked to present a rehearsed concert reading of the script(s) at the Regional Festival. If a playwright cannot ensure that his/her home school will bring a reading for the play, please contact the NPP chair, Todd Ristau.
  • Even if the regional finalist playwright cannot attend the Regional Festival, their play may still be eligible for consideration to the national John Cauble Short Play Award, provided that they play was
    1. produced at least as a staged reading and entered as an associate or participating production; and then
    2. invited to the Regional Festival.
  • Region IV finalists are selected by theatre professionals from other KCACTF regions.
  • Two of the 2017 Region IV KCACTF One-Act finalists will be invited back to the 2018 Region IV KCACTF Festival as fully supported productions.
