What Playwriting Category Should I Choose?

At the national level, the KCACTF Michael Kanin Playwriting Awards Program has a large number of awards for which your work may qualify.  Below is a chooser that will help match you with the awards program that is right for you.

David Mark Cohen — If your work has been produced at your college or university and is a participating or associate entry at the regional level.
Jean Kennedy Smith Playwriting Award — If your work explores the human experience of living with a disability and is a participating or associate entry at the regional level.
Ken Ludwig Playwriting Scholarship — if you have three scripts (at least one must be full-length,) a faculty nomination, your school has a participating or associate entry int the regional festival and you plan to attend a college theatre or writing program for the next year.
KCACTF Latino Playwriting Award — If you are of Latino heritage and your school has a participating or associate entry in the regional festival.
Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Award — If you are of African or Diasporan decent, your work’s subject expresses the African experience, and your school has a participating or associate entry in the regional festival.
Mark Twain Prize for Comic Playwriting — If your work is comic in nature and your school has a participating or associate entry in the regional festival.
KCACTF Musical Theatre Award — if your work is an original and copyrighted musical, and your school has a participating or associate entry in the regional festival.
National Partners of the American Theatre Award — One play from each region will be selected from entries in the regional playwriting competition.
Harold and Mimi Steinberg National Student Playwriting Award — One play from each region will be selected from entries in the regional playwriting competition.
KCACTF National Undergraduate Playwriting Award — One play from each region will be selected from entries in the regional playwriting competition.
Paul Stephen Lim Playwriting Award — if you are of Asian heritage and your school has a participating or associate entry in the regional festival.
Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting — if your work explores issues of gender, diversity, and sexual orientation, and your school has a participating or associate entry in the regional festival.
Rosa Parks Playwriting Award — if your work is on the subject of social justice and civil rights and your school has a participating or associate entry in the regional festival.
KCACTF Theatre for Young Audiences Award — if your work is intended for young people between kindergarten and twelfth grade and your school has a participating or associate entry in the regional festival.


One-Act Play
