Design, Technology & Management

Welcome Region IV Design, Technology, and Management Participants!

We hope your semester is going well.
As we get closer to our 2017 festival, we have exciting news to share with you. Things are lining up for a great festival with outstanding design respondents and special guests. Please check back for more updates as we approach Festival 49!

We are pleased that we will be bringing back many of your favorite activities from past festivals including productions, workshops, and of course, the professional responses to your work.

Any student may enter on the national level (for work done on produced productions at their campus) and regional level (unproduced, classroom projects), as long as their school has entered at least one associate or participating entry during the festival year.

Please consider presenting a project in the regional categories –sponsored by SETC, these opportunities are within scenic, costume, lighting and technical design/craft. The opportunities are endless! So bring that really exciting project that you created in class.

To qualify for awards, you must be registered for the Festival as an individual AND separately register each of your design or management entries, and participate in the Region IV exhibit and interview. Stage Managers be sure to check out the Stage Management Page and deadlines.

Please refer to the National Guidelines at www.kcactf.org for additional information.

Please note that there are no longer specific requirements for the design displays. This is to allow you to present the process you actually used rather than to make students create work that may not have been part of the design process simply because it is required for the display. This change is a direct response to input from students on the national level. A student should present materials, which most clearly tell the story of the process and evolution of the design. Supporting materials that have proven most useful include combinations of the following: research images, preliminary sketches, white models, color models, color sketches, drafting including sections, recording of sound cues and manipulations that lead to those compositions, design bibles, story boards, costume renderings, fabric and trim swatches, costume plot, cue synopsis, production photographs, tracking sheets, etc… This is in no way meant to be a definitive list. Choose elements that best articulate and document the conceptual approach, collaboration and process.

The Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas Awards are for students who display potential for success in their chosen area. There are two kinds of SILV awards; the one-week regional scholarship for excellence in any area of design and technology, and the eight-week national scholarship for excellence in the field of allied crafts.
