Greetings!

We are so excited about all of the opportunities that are available to you through Region IV of KCACTF! We are in the middle of planning a wonderful festival for 2011 and we look forward to seeing you there. Even more than a festival it is a celebration of student achievement!!! We are very excited that our area has a new name which is Design, Technologies and Management! This better reflects that Stage Management is not only alive and well but also vibrant and integral in Region IV! We Our region has long been known for the strength of Design, Technology and Management and is often one of the largest festivals in terms of the numbers of student designers, artisans, craftspeople and technicians. Vice-Chair Paul Favini and I are working to make our next festival better than ever and as you know that is a hard act to follow! We have already invited talented and respected respondents from all across the country who will talk with you about your work and select the winners of the Design Exposition. We are continuing all of your favorite aspects of the festival and adding more events to fill out the rest of your Region IV experience.

If you are new to KCACTF we welcome you and want to tell you a bit more about the opportunities that will be waiting for you.

The National Design Expositions are open to students who have actualized their designs in Participating and Associate productions. Students are nominated for inclusion by either the production respondents who saw your work or by their design faculty. First place winners in these competitions go on to represent our region at the Kennedy center. Come see all of the amazing work of your fellow students

The Regional Design Expositions are open too all registered students. These may be some of the wonderful work done as class projects in addition to work on realized productions. In order to give everyone the same advantage production photos are not allowed and designs are reviewed solely on the artistic merit of the designs.

Craft Expositions celebrate the creative talents and problem solving abilities of our craftspeople and technicians in any area. We see so much wonderful craft work around the region yet we have not had many entries in this exhibition. Come on-BRAG about your work. Were you the Technical director on a show? Did you build something amazing? Did you create the best prop on the planet? Did you build a stunning garment? Show us! This year we want to especially celebrate our Milliners so bring those hats and headpieces and display them along with your designs.

Stage Managers are honored in festival long programming that not only looks at what they have done on productions in their home theatres but also gives them a chance to work with actors and directors in all new productions created at the festival.

A NEW EVENT this year is COSTUME PARADE! We invite designers to bring not only their designs but the actual costumes and have your friends model them in a runway show. This way we all get to see your designs as they were intended- in movement and on the human body. This also gives us a chance to celebrate those who construct our costumes.

The Design Expo Mixer gives students a chance to meet and talk to fellow designers. Here the emphasis is on meeting networking and finding out what your peers are doing at other colleges and universities. See old friends from previous festivals and make new friends all at one event!

Workshops in all areas are presented by talented guests from around the country and faculty in the region. There is so much amazing opportunity for you here and that you won't be able to do it all!

You get to see the actual work of your fellow design students on stage in the productions that have been invited to the festival.

There is so much more that is "in the works". Stay tuned to this website for updates! In the meantime make your plans to attend the festival in February! We can't wait to celebrate YOU and YOUR WORK!

If you have questions please email either of us.
