Projects exhibited may include any formal presentation of problem solving which moves the design from the sketch to the stage including properties, costume crafts, carpentry, technical engineering, drafting, and production management. Winners will receive certificates and cash awards. PLEASE NOTE: This is an award to Region IV. Winners will receive a certificate and cash award but are not eligible for the National Festival.

For the table, the complete presentation must fit in a 2 feet deep x 4 feet wide table space with a free standing presentation 3 feet tall by 4 feet wide placed at the back of the table space. Tables will be provided. When mounted and displayed on a vertical surface the presentation must not exceed 32 square feet, 4 feet wide by 8 feet high . When size limitations of scaled presentation materials require xerographic reduction, such out-of-scale reduction should be noted. Please note on the entry form if a table or wall space is required.

5.  The artisan will send project materials requested to the host of the Regional Festival two weeks prior to the festival or bring materials to the Design and Technology exhibition space in person prior to the scheduled deadline for submission as determined by the Regional Design Chair.

6. Participants must pay the registration fee for the festival but are not required to attend. It is to your great advantage to be present for the open critique session. The respondents reserve the right to decline presenting an award if suitable projects are not entered.

Requested Materials:

NOTE: Following is a list of requested materials. Not all designers at the regional level will have all of this material but this should not discourage or prevent them from participating in the competition. These are to be considered "guidelines" for presentation.
It is our hope that the materials presented will reflect the creative process used in developing the design as it reflects the designer's unique vision and understanding industry standards for scene design, costume design, and lighting design. The guidelines for design materials requested are:

1.  Present the finished object clearly supported by appropriate structures to display to best advantage. This may include wig heads, mannequins, whatever will simulate the way the item would or did appear on stage.

2.  Include step by step process images with accompanying visual and verbal explanations to clarify to another how to go about creating this object. This may include the production designer’s original sketch from which you worked, images of the object on stage in performance, research gathered for execution, the objectives of the class assignment, thumbnails, color swatches, draftings, labor and financial budgets. These may be presented in a notebook or on the surrounding self-supporting display board.
Presentation of production management projects should also reflect organizational skills as set down in the production book which may contain the above or stand as the “object” before a surround display of representative images as noted above.

3.  Visual materials which serve to show research, preliminary sketches, photographic images, and any other sources of inspiration which demonstrate the artisam’s process and evolution should be included in the presentation.

4. A single paragraph statement of the artisin’s approach to the production should be prominent in the display.
