The Panowski Playwriting Competition Goes Green

The Panowski Playwriting Competition Goes Green

Marquette, MI – February, 2011 – As of February 15th the Mildred and Albert Panowski Playwriting Competition is taking submissions again!  A few notable changes appear in the rules and application process this year.  The major changes include an online submission form, a yearly theme, and the award-winner workshop occurring during the school year with a production being mounted the following theatre season.

In an effort to continue Northern Michigan University and Forest Roberts Theatre’s endeavors to “go green” all plays should be submitted to http://www.nmu.edu/theatre.  Entries should be submitted no later than September 1st, 2011.  A winner will be selected in December of the same year.

The theme for the 2011 competition is “environmental issues.”  This includes but is not limited to sustainability, climate, biodiversity, conservation, natural disasters, environmental health, natural resources and resource depletion, population effects, land use, and energy.

Started in 1977, the Panowski Playwriting Competition is designed to encourage and stimulate artistic growth among educational and professional playwrights.  The winner of the competition is awarded $2,000, a fully-mounted production of the winning submission during the theatre season, and serves as Artist-in-Residence the week of the show.
