Dear All — ‘Site Project: Athens’ is now accepting applications for its summer session in Athens, Greece.

The focus of the program is the exploration of process and cross-discipline collaboration via the development and realization of original, multi-media performance work. We are interested in developing projects that seek collisions & connections between contemporary events and classic locations, texts & myths – and, as such, the work tends to be rather political. Last summer we developed video, photographs, text, choreography, theater, books and more using the human cost of the political & economic situation in Greece as the central lens. 2011 ACTF festival participants may have seen one of our ‘artifacts’ – a performance piece entitled “everyone knows who bombed the bank”. Director Robert Lawson & choreographer Sally Bomer – the primary faculty for Site Project – also created “The Transit of Mercury Across the Face of the Sun”, which was remounted at the festival.

In Athens, student participants work under Lawson & Bomer in collaboration with a wide range of like-minded young artists from the States, Athens and abroad: performers, designers, graphic artists, musicians, video/film artists, technicians, writers, etc. Participants are expected to work in areas both known and new to them, since – in the largest sense – our work is to broaden the way young artists define who they are and what they do when they think of making work for performance.

This 6 credit course of work has been developed and accredited by Hellenic American University located in downtown Athens, and will run from May 23 – July 1, 2011. Cost for the program is €2200., which covers tuition, administration, rehearsal facilities & workspace, orientation to the city & culture, room, board, performance tickets, material expenses in Athens, and travel in Greece. Airfare is not included.

Details & application forms at www.SiteProjectAthens.net, or contact Lawson at information@SiteProjectAthens.net.  You can also contact me at this e-mail if you’re looking for more information.

‘Site Project’ is also planning a winter term session in Vietnam 2011/12.
News on that as it develops.

Thanks – R. Lawson
